As well as a plethora of one off exciting projects, The Glendale Gateway Trust is very proud of the regular funded events which all take place at The Cheviot Centre.
Memory Lane – a fortnightly group session for people living with dementia.
GGT started this initiative to reach out and bring support to people living with dementia in some of the most remote areas of North Northumberland.
Bernicia helped GGT establish Memory Lane with a £9,000 grant from their Community Investment Fund.
The group meets every fortnight, with music at the heart of the sessions to help rekindle memories and slow cognitive decline. We identified a need for a group to tackle isolation for people living with dementia in Wooler and its surrounding rural communities.
The group provides transport to help people and their carers attend the group – ensuring they don’t have to travel further afield at their own cost to Alnwick or Berwick to seek support.
The Glendale Gathering – a weekly social get together to assist in reducing social isolation for older people in the rural community.
Supported by The GGT, The Gathering is run by the wonderful staff and volunteers from Bell View care home in Belford. For a small charge, anyone is welcome to come along for a few hours of company, entertainment, raffles, films, talks and a delicious 2 course lunch.
The group are also taken out twice a year, for a summer outing and a Christmas celebration.
Inky Fingers – a fortnightly arts and crafts session for local children aged between 4 and 10.
In conjunction with GGT, Inky Fingers is led by local artist Anthea Wood, owner of Amwood Art. She creates a fun learning environment for the enthusiastic children and the class varies each time.
Over the time the group has been running, the children have created some wonderful work, including exhibition pieces for events including the Northumberland National Park’s Dark Skies project and Wooler Arts 5th Anniversary celebration.
